Ilsa is doing great.She thinks she is queen of this house and I am her slave. It's fine with me. I love her dearly. It only took her one day to make herself at home. She sleeps on the bed with me, and likes to wake me up about 6:30 every morning for her breakfast. I wonder if she doesn't have a Siamese in her background. She sure can sound like one when she talks, and she does a lot of talking. We carry on quite a conversation sometimes. We are doing great. We really do belong together.

Hello!

We re-named him Bruce, and he's been doing fabulous! I was shocked when Ryan brought him home on Friday! Ryan came to my work with Bruce to surprise me and everyone in my office just loved him! Of course, I started crying like a baby because I was so happy!

He gets along great with my daughter and our cat. We introduced him to my dads dog and they got along well too. He's very social and likes being around other animals and people. He's pretty laid back and calm, though he does have his bursts of energy! He's starting to learn to walk on a leash, but he thinks it's a chew toy half the time. He also is learning potty training very well. He goes on the puppy pad or outside most of the time. He's sitting pretty well too now. The DVD you gave us helped immensely!

We ordered a DNA test to see exactly what breeds he is, so we are excited to hear back. With his big paws I bet he'll be a big boy!

I've attached a picture of him with the toy he picked out. We took him with us into the pet store and he picked out a couple different toys!

Thank you again so much! He is an excellent addition to our family and we love him very much!

Sloan and Sophie are almost a year now! Sloan is on the left and Sophie is on the right. They are doing very well, although they really like to cause trouble haha. They get along perfectly with my other two cats, which was one of our concerns when we adopted Sloan and Sophie back in June. I just thought I would send an update on them to let you know how they are doing! :) They love to play, with anything they can find.. I just found a chewed up Styrofoam cup in the kitchen haha. They also are super friendly and love to cuddle! When I am reading or doing homework they like to take whatever I am doing from my hands and cuddle on my lap lol. Anyways I love these two cats with everything I have, Thank you so much for letting me have them!

I adopted "Amp" a month ago from the humane society in Burnett County. He was only three months old and stole my heart when I saw him on the website. I had to put my black and tan coonhound Murphy down on December 2nd and was in need of another coonhound. He was the only one in Wisconsin that I could find and I had to wait almost a month to get him because his leg wasn't doing so good. After picking him up and having him on vitamins for a month, his leg is perfect and he is happy and healthy! His name is now Willis and he loves to play with my cat and is very cuddly! He sleeps with me every night and enjoys taking walks around the neighborhood! Hes now discovering that he has a VOICE!!! His howl is priceless and I love him dearly! Thank you to the staff of the Humane Society in Burnett County! I don't know what I would have done without him!!

Our "Timmy"!

Just wanted you to know how "Timmy" is doing. My son has renamed him "Serious Black", and we are so enjoying having him in ourlives.

He is just the sweetest, most perfect dog! He is getting 2 to 3 walks a day, plenty of grain-free food and treats, and rides in the car with us. The cats have already grown used to him, and he is even making friends with the rabbit. This morning he met the neighbor's dogs, and had a blast playing with their young black lab. He will sleep well today!

I can't thank you and your staff enough for everything. I was so impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of your staff, and how much you do for the animals with as little as you have. I had poor experiences with our local Humane Society, and so wish they could learn from yours.

We will be directing our usual Humane Society cash donations to your shelter from now on, and I have spread the word to all our pet-loving friends that yours is the place to go when they have room for a new family member. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask.

Cassie's doing wonderfully, she's such a wonderful addition to our family. She's so loving and greets us at the door everyday when we get home. She loves playing with out bathroom rug, it's so funny and if you shut her out of a room she sits there til you come out. It's so sweet. Thank you so much for her, we are so in love with her!

Bam-Bam is now Buddy and he is doing really well. He was shy at first and has gone to the bathroom outside, no accidents in the house. He sleeps with me and as of today he is a total different pup. He plays, he takes the leash in his mounth and walks me. He has adapted to the house very well. He is so loveable he follows me everywhere. He is eating really good. Everytime I take him out and goes to the bathroom, he gets a small treat. He is the best little guy!

Gabriel is doing wonderful. He was a little skittish the first day but by the second day he was letting us carry him all over and sleeping with the kids. He is even warming up to the dog. It's funny because he will often by dozing off and the dog will be right by him and he'll open an eye, see the dog and freak out like he didn't realize the dog was there the whole time. He is also a BIG eater, which is good and he uses his litter box just fine as well. He loves to play with his feather and wand toys. He carries the big pole thing around and it's so cute because he's 1/4 of it's size. We all really love him.
He really never even cried at night which I thought he might, he just suggles up with the kids and sleeps. I'll try to send some pictures when we send hi neuter paperwork so you can see how he's growing. He's a great kitten, very friendly and loving. We feel fortunate to have found him! Thanks for checking in.
He will get his neuter and declaw in March sometime. The vet will look when he gets his shots in February to see how his male parts are maturing. He definiatly likes to claw things, mainly the furniture but I spray him with a water bottle when he does it and he's getting a tad better. He really isn't a fan of his clawing tree thingy he much prefers the tweed fabric of the couch, ha ha!

We've just had a break-through today so your email comes at a perfect time. Noel actually walked right in, without hesitation, into the back seat of the car!! Yeah!! Needless to say, she got all the treats at once I had in my pocket. We've gone for four rides and she's discovered that she can sit up on the back seat and look out the window which she's enjoyed since the first ride (after coming home that is).
Other than one accident the following morning after we got her, she's completely housebroken. Not sure yet what her "cue" is for going out since I take her out very often.
I'm hoping she's picked up a couple pounds since she's been here as she's quite thin.
She brings us "presents" all the time - shoes, boots, gloves, hats, loaves of bread, etc. She's only recently chewed things (two items) so anything good has been removed from the basket that she sorts through for entertainment.
I had her up to the Fts where I volunteer Wed afternoons and she was a big hit and behaved beautifully. Her name is now Shelley and she's taken to it very easily so I think it must sound a little like her old name (?) I've not walked her without a leash yet and she doesn't know to stay in the car until given the okay but that won't take long.
I'm delighted with her. As quiet as she generally is, she has a very, very loud, huge, deep bark when she wants to!

Hello to all my friends there! I really like my forever home. The first thing I did was lift my leg to all the interesting things I saw so that the other kids here had no doubt whose house this was. I played tag with the cat Sammy, and then made Ursula move off the couch so I could lay down. She thinks that she is a teacup poodle so don't tell her she is a Great Dane.
Mom spent the day hugging and kissing and petting. Ugh. But it made her happy and she has food so I put up with it. There are squirrels and birds and deer all over: can't wait til Spring. I have an owie on my foot but it is not stopping me from exploring.
Take care of yourselves, thank all the wonderful people and animals for making my stopover there so loving. I have to go now because I smell food and it has to be for me because I have crowned myself King.

Hope you aren't insulted but her name is now Annie. We really like Jaida just fine, but somehow she seems to us like an Annie.
She is doing just great. Obviously you people at the shelter worked hard and often with her. We have detected no behaviors that cause us any alarm. Thanks for your work. Annie lives with out two older greyhounds and so far so good. We also introduced her to one of our cats (very briefly and carefully). No apparent problems there either. We do lots of walking because of the health benefits, so Annie puts multi miles on her little legs every day. Overall, she is a spicy little gundle of energy, but does not show signs of agressions or pushiness.
Thank you for preparing her for life with us. We will always take care of her and love her as a member of our family. Perhaps an opportunity will arise when we can bring her for a visit with you at the shelter. Please relay our thanks to Lucas and the others on the staff.

Carly has been switched to Ali and she has figured that out just fine as she larns about her new home. As I type this she is lying next to me all pooped out from a run with me and our golden retriever Claire, followed up by a surprise visit from on of my good buddies and her 6 month old black lab. What a play session that was!
She is figuring out things very quickly. My first impression of her at the shelter was that she was a smart dog and that is definitely proving to be true. She is great to work with and we are enjoying her very much. (The cat is not all that fond of her but they'll figure stuff out with a bit more time.)

He has free run of the house and loves looking out the window at the birds. He gets along very well with out other cat, Rusty...and last night was actually the first night they slept together with me on the bed...he is eating great and has a LOT of new toys!!!
He is a lover and a talker..I am just so happy we got him. He has started jumping in the tub and drinking the water from the faucet...and when it isn't running, he "talks to me" til I turn it on...funny...Yes, he's spoiled!!

My name is Cody, I'm a cat and I live with a great family near Webster. At the end of the summer, my family brought home a kitten. She was named Missy but my family changed her name to Tasha because it looks like she has a milk mustache. I wasn't sure what to think of her at first but it didn't take us long to become good friends. It's fun having a "sister". We have fun chasing each other and playing hide and seek. We like to sleep near the woodstove now that it's cold outside. Tasha is a lot more curious than I am, especially about our big black lab. She's energetic and even though I'm only 2, she brings out my playful side. When our family is gone during the day, it is really nice having someone else around. We even look like "brother and sister" because I'm also black and white. Deacon, our dog, is entertained by her squeaky voice, although he doesn't think she's so cute when he gets a table scrap and she rushes in to nab the morself for herself. Tasha wants to say that she is very thankful for the Burnett County Humane Society for taking her in. She was sad to be adopted without her brother, Zach, but is happy that he has a new home, too. It did make it easy for her to adapt to me, her new "brother". She'd say more but she just closed her eyes and is resting on the chair near the warm woodstove.

Hi!

I wanted to share this good news with you. I adopted a black and white "tuxedo" kitten, named Josh in Sept-October of 2010 from your Humane Society. I renamed him Elvis because his lip injury left him with a crooked smile or a sneer, similar to Elvis Presley.

I took Elvis in for his rabies vaccination earlier this month at Hudson Road Animal Hospital and my veterinarian announced that Elvis was selected as Pet of the Month. You can read about Elvis and see a current picture of him on their website here: http://www.hrah-pa.com/petof month/83/

About what. . . .two month's ago, I adopted Nina, the beautiful boarder collie/spaniel mix. Nina has transformed into the most wonderful puppy in the world. She lives with three college girls and is totally pampered and spoiled. Every single day, Nina seems to do something to surprise us. At first, she wouldn't really eat any bones or treats, we couldn't get her to respond with any toys and now she is the funniest little thing. When we take her out she prances and jumps around like a little deer and is always giving kisses, even to strangers.

We have been attending obedience class with her and she is so smart. We are working towards becoming a therapy dog and her trainers are super excited and love to work with her. Little kids love to pet her because she stills rolls over on her back for her belly to be scratched. Attached are a ton of picture We are so happy people always make fun of us for spoiling her, but really, we are the lucky ones because of the endless amount of love we receive from her.

Thank you for asking about Sweety - her new name is Joey. She is doing WONDERFULLY in our home. She is getting along great with Jett. They plan often in the house. She likes to chew so she has a special bone that is all hers that she can chew on and we make sure that she has it in her crate while we are not home. She is for the most part housebroken, so there have been very few accidents. She is still trying to figure out how to let us know that she has to go out...she is starting to whine in the kitchen - near the door, so we are very excited. The boys love her and she loves them, wiggling her rear end and wagging her tail at them. She is curious about the cats, but for the most part, she leaves them alone, and they are happy about that. Thank you for the pictures that you have. I love the one with her tongue sticking out.

Josie (formerly Alanna) seems to be adjusting quite nicely. She had her stitches out this morning and the vet will follow-up with me on the fecal sample. Josie is no longer afraid of getting in and out of the truck. I took her on several long walks after a rise so she would know that a car ride does not necessarily mean going to the vet. She has also learned to climb stairs since I live on the second floor of my house. She seems eage to please and comes (usually) when called although I always have a leash on her when outside. Hi there, our little babies, renamed "Hannah" (Huey) and "Emily" (Pia) by our daughter are loving their new set-up! Our daughter loves holding them and would 24/7 if I would allow her to! We have set certain times up during the day that the cts get a break and they usually nap! We also have a room that is their "safe-zone" where they cn be completely alone and free to eat and then another room to use the box in privacy. We can hear both of them scrambling around wrestling each other when we leave them alone, and they just love to quiet down after playing and sleep all snuggled up by each other! We are still waiting for them to be a bit more relaxed and holdable but understand that its gotta be a bit overwhelming with the kids chasing them around! So, I'm sure it'll come after time. We will definitely let you know if questions come up but for now we are fine. Thanks for the opportunity to bring even more joy into our home!

Beautiful Bargain Beauford

The day we came to your shelter to "just look at the dogs" was one of the best days of this year. The beautiful golden eys of an oddly colored dog caught our attention. The next thing we knew Beauford was leaning against my husband insisting on playing fetch. He won us over with his enthusiasm and determination.

Three months later we still don't know how long he will play fetch; we tire out long before he does. An unexpected bonus is that we are losing weight and toning up due to our increased exercise.

Speaking of bonuses: Beauford came to us neutered, micro-chipped and vet checked for a cost that is less than a few month's gym fees.

You folks are not only contributing to the health and well being of the pets you serve, but also their new owners!

The boys are doing fabulous! We have given them new names - Starsky and Hutch. Jose is Starsky and Dudley is Hutch. We enjoy them so much, each day is a new adventure for them as us as well. I had no idea how high they can jump! Jose decided he enjoys sitting on the top of my refrigerator and some times the top of my kitchen cupboards is one of his favorite spots. Dudley is a little less adventurous. He does enjoy spending time on the back of my couch calling to the birds and catching flies, he also likes sitting on my dresser. But one thing is for certain, where one is the other is not too far away. They love finding new things and actually talk back to us when we talk to them. They have no problem feeling right at home on my bed. One of my favorite things to see is when they lay on the floor and actually hug each other and fall asleep that way. We are all very happy to have them in our lives, they are a wonderful addition. Thank you for the opportunity - we are so greatful!

Bertha renamed Daisy!

Bertha is doing very well. We have renamed her "Daisy" and she responded to her new name right away. She follows us everywhere in the house and she likes exploring her new yard. And she still loves belly rubs and a lot of attention. We are very happy with her.

A lot of her characteristics and actions remind us a lot of Bob's brother's old dog Cody. He was an Australian Shepard and she reminds us of him a lot.

Sorry for not responding sooner, but I don't check my email very often! Luca is doing great. He has settled into our schedule and adores our girls! Our cats are slow to come around, and it would help if Luca wasn't trying to play with them the instant he sees them! We have figured out what his likes (chewies and a kong filled with PB and treats) and dislikes are (any stuffed toy is shredded instantly) rather quickly. We had company this past weekend and he did great with 2 extra guests in the house. He loves to take walks and enjoyed our hike last weekend at the state park in Luck. We look forward to many happy years with our new pooch! Thanks so much for all you guys do there!!

Hello from Shadow!

Hello from Shadow and her new companions, Scooby and Little Girl! They all gave me a new name, a little more "flower-y" than Shadow. My family calls me "Daisey" now.

I am fantastic! I learned from my new owner that I am a breed called a "Russian Blue" and have the white powdered sugar sprinkles on my tail, which proves it! I sleep in between my new mum and pop every night, and cry if they go away. Of course, I wait by the door until they get home, and am the first to greet them. They have dry food and fresh water daily, and I have already gained some weight!

I have the run of a big house, but never go outside. I have two screen porches to sit on where I watch chipmonks, birds and squireels. I can't wait 'til mum opens the big door each morning so I can go on the screen porch with my brother and sister. They like me fine, and I play "Catchers" with the big guy, Scooby. Little Girl likes me, too.

My new owners LOVE ME VERY MUCH, and I love them too. I am glad you kept me safe and warm for so long, so I could have a good home now.

Paco is doing really well!

He is totally house trained, loves to go for walks and his favorite toy is a stuffed eyeball that fell off of one of Aja's bigger toys. He likes to sleep UNDER the covers, thank you very much, and if not allowed to do so will look at you with a look that Sarah McLaughlin could write a song about. Paco comes to work with me at the vet clinic almost every day where, of course, everyone loves him. :)

Nubbins (Anni) is doing great! She's healthy, happy and has easily blended into our family. Our 10 year old collie Hester has taken to her with no problems....though gets annoyed with her puppy behavior and nibble attacks! Nubbins is really sweet and relaxed most of the time, but has her pupy spaz attacks a few times a day. She's diong great with potty training...only 1 or 2 accidents a week. She is super snuggly, super sneaky, super cute, super nibbly, super pain in the "A" sometimes...but all in all SUPER! We'll bring her by for a visit this Sept. when we're at our cabin in Siren.

Colt aka Shiloh is doing GREAT. My kids went with Colt because of the colt 45 gun and he is as fast as a bullet. He sits, lays, army crawls. On the hot days he likes to take dips in the pool with the boys. He is a very fast learner. You can tell he came from a big littler or the big dogs took his toys, he eats his food like someone is going to take it from him and he tends to hide EVERYTHING that he finds, his or not. Shoes, bones, toys, just anything. So we have brought him lots of toys but some days we can't find any of them. He gets along really well with the cat, friends have brought their dogs over and he has been really great. So thank everyone for us for taking such great care of him. We are very lucky God blessed us with a new family member.

Johnny aka Chewbacca the Wookie

Johnny is rapidly becoming my pride and joy. We renamed him Chewbacca the Wookie since my husband, John, thought he looked like the Wookie from Star Warrs when I got him home. He goes by Chewie and picked up his new name within 24 hours.

He is the most Amazing, and I cannot stress amazing enough, little guy. He continues to make me laugh with antics and I never dreamed how huge his personality could be. He absolutely loves his brother and sister and the pool in the backyard gets a daily use from him. When I have let them outside during the recent intense heat, he loves to lay down in it and put his head on the side. He even appeared to be asleep the other day.

Chewie loves to wrestle with Tazzi our Swedish Vallehund (she is his size) and he is lso fascinated by the cats. He doesn't chase them, but has to sniff and rub up against them and even climb up next to them on the back of the couch and go to sleep.

He hasn't even had an accident in the house!!! He sleeps next to me on the bed, walks on his leash like a champ and loves car rides. He is PERFECT! I would never ever guess he is about nine years old. He goes in for his Lyme's booster with Dr Tom in Webster. Of all th rescue dogs I have had over my lifetime (I'm 45), he is without a doubt the most grateful and loving. When I get home from wherever, he does the cutest little teddy bear dance on his back legs and goes around in circles.

I will gladly bring him by for a visit sometime when we are up at our cabin. Please thank everyone there for me and Chewie too. You are to be commended for everything you do.

Little Grey is now named Ciner. She and our little maltese dog "Tripper" seem to be in love. Lol. They sleep together, give each other baths, and the dog tries to share his ball and chew toys with her. It is sooooo adorable. She goes around chasing his tail and he pulls her along until shes tired. She is our little explorer. She needs to see what everythig is and what is in every nook and cranny.

Tlex is now names Tanner, with a nickname of Chainsaw. He purrs so loudly, that you can hear him across the house that my finance calls him a little chainsaw. We rub his chin and its like revving up an engine. He has become more of the cuddler, wants to be held as much as possible, and greets me when I get home from work. He doesn't seem to know how to Meow yet. Instead he makes this squirlly sounds. Makes it very eash to know which cat is sneaking up to you.

In the last week and a half they have grown much. We tried keeping them to a few rooms at first but they wanted the whole house. And since they were already litter trained (not a single accident!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU) we let them have free roaming. They like to sleep in my daughters bed and hide toys under her desk. They have become more and more playful. They sound like elephants now running through the house when they are wrestling, chasing each other or a ball. They can do quite the acrobatic tricks. THen when the dog gets involved, its so comical watching they all play and chase and when the kittens decide to gang up on him, we laugh all night long.

Anyways - Thank you again for these little ones. They fit into our new home just perfectly and they are very happy.

So far, Tony is doing great! We love him and he is really fitting into our family. He has already gone on many runs with me and went camping with us this last weekend. He is such a good dog, and we are so happy to have him. He definitely loves to cuddle and be around us. He settled in quite well, and we have not had any problems with his behavior, so far. He has a bit comfy pilloe to sleep on and lots of fun toys and treats. He is such a friend and companion. He got to meet goth of our families a few time already, and our families love him as well. Everyone tells us how he is such a well-behaved, good looking dog. And they are right!! The best part is that bot sets of our parents own lots of land, so he has lots of room to run around. And, he even met some of our friends who have three dogs, and he plays so well with them. They have a ball!

Thank you so much for your help in us adopting him. He is surely a wonderful addition to our home and family. He seems very happy here, and has settled in well. We love him!

"Soffie" Loran is doing very well....seems to really appreciate a warm, safe home after being a stray and living in a kennel. Yesterday morning when I was barely awake she jumped up on the bed, snuggled up by my shoulder and started purring like a Mercedes before I even touched her or said a word. She chases and is chased by our other cat, Kit, a male who is about 6 years old. They are getting along quite well together...only a few hissy fits.

Soffie has laid come to a favorite chair. Fortunately Kit prefers the sofa so no problem. I thought the chair was mine, so it's fortunate for me that she likes laps too.

Soffie likes the screened porch even in the winter. After all, the squirrels are active and there's still birds at the feeder.

Black was my least favorite color for pets, but she is such a sweetheart and her coat so shiny, she really is a "Beauty in Black." I chose her in the first place because I had read that shelters have a hard time placing black cats (may have been in your news column) and all cats deserve a good home; Now I'm so glad I did.

My husband likes her too. I knew he would...just likes to grumble about pets. Now we each can have a cat in our lap when watching TV....no need to be jealous!

Thanks for the e-mail. We have actually renamed him Mojo because he seems to have so much energy and is so loving. We absolutely love him and he has settled in without incident. He is just so friendly and easy going. When we took him to the vet for a ckeck-up, he didn't put up any fuss at all. It only took our other cat a couple days to get used to him and now they seem like best friends. We couldn't be happier. We feel so very blessed to find a new cat like him. Thank you and your staff for being so accomodating and friendly. We know Mojo was well taken care of while he was there at HSBC.

How nice to hear from you, and Thanks for asking about Gertrude, now Tori. Hard to believe we are working on 3 weeks now.

Tori has settled in wonderfully. Our trip home to Madison was a little longer than usual since she let us know that she needed to go out every couple of hundred miles, but she wasn't afraid of the trucks when they released their air brakes instead she just turned around and stared at it and let out a little snort and walked on.

She's interested in her backyard and has met the neighbors one by one. Yes, even in the cold, my neighbors needed to see the new additional on the cul du sac. She has great manners meeting and greeting everyone be they human or canine. Tori wasn't really an early morning pup, but she has learned that she and I go to the dog park every date at 4 am for an hour walk and now is excited about meeting the others that are there for their exercise and social time, too. She has earned being leash free and keeps up with 2 young Fox Terriers (Fly and Pip) who are zipping all over the park. Fly loves to be chased and Tori loves chasing him; and surprisingly, she is ready to go again when I get home from work.

I have found out that Tori doesn't like Milk Bones, she only likes Meaty Bones, will do anyting for Solid Gold Tiny Tots, a small lamb jerky, that is her training treat.

Loves to be petted, and especially loves to be massaged all over. Comes when called, so long as there isn't something more interesting, of course. I have a 2 story house, and will only sleep downstairs, even though I have tried to have her come upstairs, she just turns around and goes back down. While Tori and I were enjoying our honeymoon period, I was luck enough to be able to comb out all her mats and trim up her feet. Her coat has become lush, darker and shiny.

She has been registered with Dane County, has her park permits and tomorrow she meets the vet for her first visit. All in all, I think she's a Gold Star Dog and can't say enough good things about her. It is a joy to come home again to a welcoming pair of eyes and a wagging tail.

Thanks to you and all the shelter volunteers for taking the time and effort to care for these animals until their foever home comes to them. Did Loki fine a forever home, too? He sure was a little cutie!

I just wanted to say Thank You to everyone at BCHS for giving me a second chance and taking care of me until my new family adopted me. If it wasn't for all of you, my new family would not have found me. I fit in from the day I arrived and there has been a lot to do. We are all having such a wonderful time. I like to nap, play with the other pets and sleep in bed at night. Let me tell you about the new tricks I have learned in the short time I have been here. I fetch when my ball is thrown and almost always bring it back for another toss. I drink from the water faucet and now use the big litter box with my new sister. I know my name and come when I am called. If you think I was fast when I had office play time, you should see me open it up here in my new home.

We had a visit from the grand kids this weekend and I don't know who had more fun. What a time we had. I plan on some additional nap time after that.

I do miss my twin brother Saucy. I hope you can find an adopting family for him soon. Just like me, he would be the perfect pet.

I'm sending you some new pictures of Elvis (formerly known as "Josh"). He's so cute!

We love him so much. He brings a lot of joy to our house. He's a climber and a cuddler.

It appears his silly little lip injury is more prevelant as he ages and that just one of the cutest things about him - his cute little crooked lip! He has the tiniest sounding meow....it's more like a little chirp. He goes downstairs or into another room and then meows for us....it's so sweet.

In picture #6 (center above) attached, he was playing with his favorite toy (the squirrel) and he just fell asleep as he was reaching over his head for the squirrel. Adorable!

Just to let you know that Gertrude, now Tori, is doing great! She is coming along and adjusting well to her new home. She has mastered the stairs, is awesome going outside to the backyard on her own, meets and greets all the arrivals at the dog park every morning and most importantly........comes to her name. She is definiately a blessing for me and hopefully I for her.

We made it home without incident. Keira travels very well. We stopped three times on the way home and she got to get out and pee and sniff around some. While we had a crate in the car for her, we took herout shortly after we got on the road because she was so interested in the food in the car, it made more sense to take her out and put the food in!

We did have our hands full when her brothers came home. After being at the kennelf roa a night, they came in the house like a herd of Buffalo and scared the crap out of her. We had to put her in the crate because she kept snapping and barking at them. She was not a happy camper. We took them outside after a while, however, and after much sniffing and running around, things settled down. As I am typing this, Keira is on Brenda's lap and the boys are on the bed sleeping.

Just a quick update on Keira -

We call her Annie, and her real name is ANwen, which means "very beautiful" in Welsh. We took her stitches out a few days ago and her incision looks great. She has settled into the routine really well. We do crate her during the day as she is not house-trained, but is getting better. She loves playing with Riley, our Rhodesian mix and while she is curious about the cats, she has never done anything else but sniff them a little. Oscar, our Mastiff, basically ignores her. Sometimes they all three play tuf-of-war and that's a real hoot.

How is her brother doing?

Freya loves the snow and everyone thinks she is a pureblooded German Shepherd. I wonder how siblings turned out.

She listens exceptionally well to me, and we're working on the other members of the family. We do puppy classes every week at Superior at Superior Animal Hospital where she interacts with other people and other dogs, which is the one thing I can't seem to find time to make happen, and I start puppy obedience classes after the first of the month.

Dear Friends at the Burnett County Humane Society,

Just wanted to give you an update on how Olaf is doing. He has been with me about a month now and is adjusting to living in Hinckley very well. Olaf has met several of the neighbors and everyone adores him. He is getting along with the neighborhood dogs as well and seems to make new friends easily. There is a bunny rabbit that lives in my back yard and Olaf is constantly attempting to sniff him out and track him down but the bunny always seems to get the best of him. Olaf has been on several car rides to the post office (he enjoys this) and has had several baths (he doesn't enjoy this).

I am surprised by his appetite. Sometimes I think he would eat all day long but don't worry, I am monitoring his food intake as I realize it is important for his health not to be overweight. Of course he does get a few table scrapes every now and then. He loves cheese - not surprising as I think he is a true Wisconsin dog at heart. We are looking forward to Christmas but neither one of us are enjoying the snow and cold.

Olaf is a very loving, loyal dog and I feel very lucky to have him for a pet. I have enclosed some pictures that I thought you all would appreciate.

Thank you all for everything that you did for Olaf and for everything you continue to do with your work at the shelter.

Attached please find a photo of Carina. I'm so glad she chose me to be her human!

Carina was quietly observant underway to her new home and appeared immediately comfortable upon entering it. She greeted my partner with paws outstretched and curled up in his arms while I set up her litter box and then jumped down and claimed "her" spot on the kitchen floor, which she regularly occupies while I am working in the kitchen. She talked a lot on the first evening and the next day, commenting on each new experience and she spent much time grooming me in bed the first and second night.

She's settling into her eating patterns and likes to eat when we do. Whenever she hears us talking together, she runs to join us and is often in one or the other. Though she favors mine, she doesn't neglect her other human.

Carina's visit to the Vet to get the stiches out of her tummy quite impressed Dr. Tom as she trustingly tolerated the necessary examination procedures without struggle. She also shows no fear of the vacuum cleaner.

Carina has brought a beautiful gentleness with her. Thanks for introducing us - the "fit" is purr-fect.

It has been a week since we adopted our girl and we just love her...we have renamed her Izzie...she is smart and after one day of being shy, she has warmed up to us and our house. She has only had a couple of accidents in the house...she goes to the door and whines and barks when she has to go out...she is playful and a snuggler...she loves going in her kennel/crate at night and she has won the hearts of everyone in the family...she even spent two nights at the deer shack with my husband and son this weekend and was able to play with another puppy while she was there...She was obviously taken good care of at the shelter and we appreciate all of the hard work the people at the kennel do...I hope her brothers and sisters all find good homes...She has been a great addition to our family...I will send some pictures of her one of these days...Thanks again.

We're doing great. We get a nice walk in every morning. He's got a great fenced yard he loves to run in most of the day. He usually doesn't want to come in for hours at a time.

We've been working on fetch with a ball. Sometimes it becomes a game of keep away from dad though. We started a training class last week so working on that as well. Trying to get to the dog park next week some. He does great with all the dogs we've met on walks and the neighborhood dogs.

I think he's gonna be a great dog especially when he learns what is and isn't ok to chew on. We've lost a fre pair of shoes already.

Both Madeline (Belle) and Moose (Linus) are doing GREAT!! They play all the time running and chasing each other. Moose loves bags (paper, duffel anything he can climb into) and Madeline pounces on top. They snuggle and cuddle and are very happy to have their foever home. Madeline had a ball fetish, every night when I climb the stairs to go to bed she sits on the end of the bed and cries and cries until I toss her pink spongie ball, she fetches it and I have to toss it at least 10 times, then I put the ball away and we go to bed. Moose plays with my husbands feet, pouncing on them as he has them under the covers while I play fetch with Madeline. They are a great addition to our family and we adore them.

Otto is doing great! He is so happy to have a home, especially now that the weather is getting colder. Otto even has his own collar and tags now--the real sign that he has people! He loves to be loved. He still has some manners to learn, but he has made such good progress. He sits on command now and this week he has learned "get down" when he gets on the couch. When he first came home, he was afraid of so many things. He wouldn't leave the living room/kitchen area and he was afraid of the cats. Now he loves to come into my bedroom and sleeps on the bed with our other dog. It's a good thing I have a king-sized bed! He doesn't understand why the cats don't want to play with him now, either. Conquering his fear of the stairs is next. Keeping him in bones and other chew toys is a challenge since he goes through them very quickly!! Overall, he is just a love and we can't imagine our home without him!

Scooter it was when adopted & Scooter it will remain. It really fits. He's so quick, alert, active and very mischievous. He & Jake-D cat are getting along much better. Starting to play & believe it or not caught them sleeping side by side the other day. Took Scooter to our vet last week (Dr. Katrina Schimmel at Pomeroy's Small Animal Hospital in St. Paul). Staff & doctors fell instantly in love with him. Asked Dr. Katrina if she were to venture a guess what did she think he was mixed with. She immediately said Black Lab & Border Collie which is what I had guessed. She also feels he won't get much bigger. She said our first visit was complimentary because of your great facility & the wonderful things you do. This past Monday, Scooter got to go to PetSmart for the "royal" treatment. Bath, teeth brushing, nails clipped, etc. The staff was great with him & naturally fell in love with him. Who couldn't!! He just wiggles his way into your heart. So far we've got him sitting, staying (pretty well), retrieving & giving kisses. We're working now on heeling. He also thinks he's a lap dog.

Scooter is just a joy.

Annie (Mercedes to you) has been with us 7 weeks now. Cute with her Corgi/Heeler mix. She is a keeper, despite her sometimes too joyful puppy behavior... loves to pull the stuffing out of pillows, her toys, etc..

She feels very at home here, loves to chase squirrels and runs, lopes, like the wind.
She gets plenty of exercise. Mostly she is Matt's companion, lays at his feet or on the carpet to the garage. Doesn't want to be left behind.

It has been a challenge to house break her. When we get up in the night, she does as well. It's been a week now without any accidents.

She wants to attack anything with a loud motor... vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers. That is a strange one.

All in all, she is a sweetie, and we are very happy to have her in our lives. Just not sure who is training who.

Just wanted to tell you that Noel has been doing just fine here. Most cats I have ever had will hide two days before they come out, but not her! She just investigated everything and then even came up to bed with us at night! She really was fascinated that we had two stairways. I think she went up and down them 100 times. I don't think we will be giving her back! She sleeps with my daughter Kelsey. She eats her food well, she goes in her litter box, so we are happy. She has adjusted to living here just fine! Like she always has lived here. You were right though about her being independent! But she likes attention once in awhile also.

See you called yesterday. I work nights so was sleeping. Tom (Fossum) was outside playing w/Scooter. Scooter had a big week.. From your facility, we went to our place in Birchwood. Scooter got to run in the woods, play in leaf piles, go for walks, see deer, and, lastly, go for a pontoon ride. Then back to Mpls to his new home. Adjusting nicely. Already sits (he's so smart). His meeting with Jake-D cat didn't go so well. Jake smacked him on the nose to let him know who's boss. Couldn't get him to eat much. I had already purchased IAM's puppy chow. A light went off. Purchased Pedigree puppy chow. Gobbled it right down. Will try mixing the two & see what happens. Next Thursday we're going to the Vet for a checkup. Will keep you posted.

Thank you so very much for letting us adopt Scooter. He has a way of wiggling right into your heart. So eager to please. Sorry we couldn't take Lucky . Unfortunately, we just don't have the room for two babies.

As you had mentioned liking updates about their progress, I thought I would let you know that Debby and Timone have settled in wonderfully at our place. The other two cats don't have any issues with them, and our dog, Freya, is delighted that they don't mind her sniffing at them. The two of them are practically inseparable ... we're really happy that we came back for Debby. If one of them is upstairs and the other is downstairs, Timone will start crying a little until Debby goes and finds him. They are both ultra-friendly, and seem very happy in their new home. Here's a picture of Margo (my 3 year old timber cat), Timone, and Debby (she's in the tunnel section, you can just barely see her) on one of our larger cat towers eating their breakfasts.

I had a nice ride with Sharon and Pat to my new home. I've had lots of walks, petting, and good food, and I think my new crate is swell. I especially like watching and trying to chase all the squirrels in my neighborhood. There are a sliding glass door and low windows on the sun porch that I can look out of. I also like getting to know my human and canine neighbors. I'm still a little wary, so not yet ready to really play, but I will eventually. I feel reassured stretched out on the living room floor near my owners. My oatmeal shampoo bath felt pretty good, and I'm all silky again!

Hi All~ I just wanted to let you know I'm doing great!! I had my 2 year birthday this past May 9th. I share my birthday with my adopted Daddy and this year was real special because it was also Mothers Day. We had a celebration at the house with all my family. It was so much fun!! I seen my real Mom's (Penny) picture in the news letter and on the website. I look so much like her (minus the hair- that I get from my Dad). Glad to hear she is happy. Too funny because I sleep on my Daddy's lap just like her when he is on the recliner!!

Another winter has pasted and our two adopted dogs from your association are not only another year older, but have grown into absolutely wonderful companions and members of the family. Each weekend in the summer we head up to our lake home in Danbury and these two start going absolutely nuts on Friday when they see the clothes bags and cooler being loaded up into the suburban. Their weekends are filled with very some hard playing and chasing each other around and of course there favorite thing to do.. swimming in the lake. Being Pit mixes, they are very lean and strong, but were not equipped with natural floatation (fat). Attached is a picture of Tate (on the left) and Bella (FKA Wrinkles) dawning their life jackets ready to hit the lake for some swimming and retrieving toys we throw out for them. These two are wonderful and we are very fortunate to have them in our lives.

Wanted to drop a quick note to say thank you. My wife and three of my sons visited you on Saturday March 20th to adopt Goldie (ummm... renamed to Chloie). She is doing great. Our other dog Sadie (two year old black lab mix ... also a shelter dog ... Star of the north shelter in MN ) took to her too. We were very careful on introductions and sharing affection with both dogs to avoid jealousy. Where Sadie is more my dog for playing and walking, Chloie is clearly my boys dog. The boys have taken to her 100%. Even my oldest son who can be a challenge (as every teenage boy is) takes great pride in her. She is a real gift.The big surprise is just how well the two dogs do together. On the first day Sadie started bringing toys over to Chloie and dropping them next to her. Now, we are seeing Chloie take to Sadie too. Just today, they started laying next to each other. Pretty neat.

Sadie was laying on the kitchen floor while I made lunch for Kevin and I looked over and Chloe went and laid down tucked in near Sadie's tummy and back legs, They both then put their heads down and just laid there!!!

We adopted Bailey(sally) a 3-legged black lab in Feb 2008 from your shelter. We had chosen her in part because we thought she would be slower...not the case. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. She lets our boys ages 2 and 5 do anything to her. She loves to get in on the action with her toys. She loves to have them chase her. She is very relaxed most of the time. Bailey enjoys our home as we have an open field behind us which allows her to sit on our deck and watch bunnies(her favorite), birds, deer, turkeys and most anything else. She likes to have her grandparents babysit on occasion as then she gets to go to the "city" and watch squirrels and sleep in bed with grandpa.

She is a great dog.

Hi Jenny, Brenda, Lucas and the nice women who took our photo! I named Big Red, Jovi, and for fun call him Bon Jovi. I cannot believe how fortunate I am he is mine. He is probably thinking the same thing because he knows I am his person and follows me everywhere. He was shaking in the car on the way back to Minneapolis but stopped after entering the home. I slept next to him and shared the pillow with him and that was our bonding moment because when I was loading the kennel in the car and my cousin was holding onto him, he was anxious I was leaving him. At the airport, I had him on a leash and gentle leader, which I bought immediately upon leaving the shelter, as I had no control over him, along with the crate. All the TSA people were leaving there posts to say hi to him and comment how beautiful he was. I think countless people may have missed their flights for the disruption, haha. I explained to everyone how I saw his picture online and adopted him from your shelter. It is a good story (and everyone loves a good story). He was amazing at the airport; not shaking, laid by me. He even got up on the scale though he didn't need to and was weighed; I have a photo of that. FYI Alaska airlines are awesome for flying pets. There is a pet area at the airport where we rode the elevator down. Thankfully the flight was smooth and he was in the baggage area when I arrived. My good friend Todd, who also was heartbroken of the loss of Zico, picked us up. Jovi went and visited him last night which is where these photos were taken. Todd has since sent these to all his friends.My housemates have been all over Jovi too. My mom and niece came over to meet him yesterday. He does not leave my side, which mean countless trips up and down stairs and also slept on my bed with me and cuddled. My cat Teva came up and had a few sniffs. She stayed on the other side of me while Jovi kept reaching his head over to her. Sometimes to quick and she would bail, though she could not leave the room. She is totally checking him out. She used to "nurse” on Zico's neck and sleep with him and she can't quite believe there is another big red dog in the bed now. But he moves to quick for her to be comfortable yet, but I can see there won't be any problems there. Anyways, all is well, Jovi is at my feet right now, and I want to thank you all for rescuing him and caring for him and giving him and me a new life. He is very well loved here on the West Coast.

Mason update (needless to say, it's never dull) -

Writing to confirm that Mason was gifted with a fabulous Christmas (see photos attached). He is continuing to do great with the exception of a recent bout of bloat a couple of weeks ago (yes, nearly ate himself to death but did make it through with treatment - $800 later :-) Needless to say, we now have a Mason proof food storage container (which we highly recommend everyone get one - much cheaper than paying for a binger).

Thought I would drop a line and give you an update on Crosby. He is a wonderful addition to our family, he has fit in so well it is like this was meant to be his home. I do not have too many pictures of him yet because he does not tend to sit still very much:) Crosby is doing wonderful with leash training and has learned how to play fetch like a pro. One of his favorite past-times has become chasing the shop-vac hose around the family room in the basement while we are in the process of trying to clean our corn stove. My oldest son is teaching him how to speak, shake and dance. It is adorable. Thank you all again for the wonderful opportunity to give Crosby a home.

Mason is doing great! He's gained 10 lbs. since coming home with us in July (weighing 85 lbs. now) and his hair has come in beautifully. He enjoys playing with the boys and their neighborhood friends. He loves stealing their footballs and galloping around as they chase him. It really is very cute.He also enjoys attending baseball and football games as the kids often call him their mascot. We often get questioned about him as he is quite unique looking, having grown into a very handsome boy.I've included some recent photos. We're so glad Mason is a part of our family. Thank you for taking such good care of him during his stay with you.

Sorry it has taken so long to give you an update on Bonnie Blue (name changed from Toni) whom we adopted on September 8. She is an incredibly sweet dog and her addition to our home has been amazing. Here she is with her new best friend, Dixie (previously Dezzy), whom we adopted from you last December 10. What beautiful animals--we are so fortunate to have been able to give them a home. They get long walks twice a day--and only rarely have to be left alone. They are always together. Bonnie has really grown alot since we brought her home last month. She is a vigorous eater, though what lab isn't. Bonnie is really a snuggler-don't tell her she's getting too big to sleep on your lap. She wants nothing more than being close to us-even if it means sharing limited space on the recliner. Thanks much for allowing us to make Bonnie and Dixie members of our family.

Happy Puppy Tail....We got our puppy from you back in the summer of 2005. He was born from a mother dog that came to you, pregnant, and soon gave birth to 9 puppies. Cooter is a German Sheperd mix (terrier?). Exactly what we were looking for. Cooter is now 4 yrs. old and happy living at our 50 acre farm with 2 horses, chickens, 6 kids and my hubby and I. As you can see in the picture, we have a crick (the Eau Galle) right across our driveway and the boys love to bring him for a romp in the water. He is best friends with our little guy, 4 year old Haydon. Cooter also has a special playmate, Lucky, our 8 year old blue healer/border collie. Cooter is very well looked after, very happy and very loved by all the family.

In his spare time, he likes best to hang with one of our old horses, Lori. She recently had some infection in her leg and he never left her side during all of her shots, cold hosing, special feedings and TLC. He even got locked in her stall with her (accidentally) for a couple of hours and when we went to care for the horse again, he just came trotting out like, "She's ok. I've been watching out for her." You can truly see the love between them.

Thank you so much for giving us Cooter (from the Dukes of Hazard...). He has been a wonderful addition to our busy, but loving family. Truly a blessing to us all. He is such a good dog. Very loving, independent, strong, smart and full of energy to spend with our kids. Thanks you, Cassie Langer

Dear Hsbc,
It has been a little over 1 year since we adopted Baby Girl, and a little over 2 years since we adopted Joe (Gordy). I can't thank you all enough for making our family complete. Baby Girl has really come out of her shell over the winter/spring and is now a very confident, loving dog. Her and Joe get along so great! We just love them both to death. They both really enjoy playing fetch, wrestling with each other, chewing bones, hanging out with us, cuddling, and going fishing with us. Joe enjoys the water, but Baby Girl does not. Maybe she will more as we take her around it more often. Anyway, I just wanted to write and say thank you once again! Here are some recent pictures of our sweet puppies.

Hi Everyone!

Sorry it has taken me so long to snap a picture, but we've been very busy with back to school/start of college preparations. Charlie is doing great and has fit into our family like he was meant to be here. Sarah and Charlie have become best buddies and play together all the time. Charlie has a real love of stuffed animals, and he's quite adept at removing the eyes, so I've started to just cut the eyes off of them before handing them over. He's only had a couple of accidents in the house, and I think they were marking territory kind of incidents. We have had him off the leash a bit (but the dogs are never outside alone) and he has been very good about staying in the yard (we have over two acres). He's taken his place on the blue denim couch alongside Sarah, and once in a while they will let the humans sit there too. We visited our vet and had him tested for heart worms and he was clean, but we are giving him medication along with Sarah because of the risk he incurred while on the run. The vet absolutely loved him. I can't tell you what a healing effect Charlie has had on our lives, after the tragic and unexpected loss of Wookie.

I was able to snap this picture with my cell phone on the deck this afternoon, by using treats as a means of getting them to pose for the camera. Charlie in particular, is keenly watching the hand that was holding the treats! We think the pair look quite handsome together, and are looking forward to seeing Charlie with his hair all grown out. Charlie is so funny...we have Garter snakes on the property, and he loves trying to catch them. It's quite amazing to see because he has come close to catching one. Another time he was in the back yard sniffing away and encountered one, and he jumped straight up in the air, just hilarious! Both of the dogs of course love sniffing all over the yard, particularly in the morning to see what creatures (more than likely raccoons) have visited the yard the night before. Sometimes they will be busy sniffing in a spot, when I can see there is a bunny hopping off into the woods about 20 feet away or so, but they just don't even see the bunny. Silly puppies and good friends. Charlie is everything we hoped for and more. We love him dearly and will continue to take good care of him. When we get closer to Christmas and his hair has grown out again, I will snap a holiday photo to send to you. Another silly habit Charlie has, is when I am using the mouse when on the computer, he will come up and put his nose under my mouse hand, and fling it up in the air to try to get me to pet him. He is quite persistent and does not give up until I give him enough attention to satisfy him.

Another funny and cute thing he did, the first time I left the house (after a couple of days of him being here), the kids said that he just started howling. I suppose he was afraid I wouldn't come back. He doesn't do it anymore, so he must feel secure enough now to know that we're a family and this is his home. We still have not heard him bark though! Maybe he thinks Sarah is loud enough that he doesn't need to add to the noise. Sarah has a thyroid condition and takes her pill with peanut butter every day; Charlie also gets a treat of peanut butter at the same time, and he loves it.

Camilla came in and warmed up right away... wasn't scared or nervous at all.... She is a PAIN IN THE BUTT!!! she meows all the time... she has made herself right at home! We love her very very much... she and my Kitty (the orange one) get along very very well.... She is VERY playful and will bring her toys up the stair and to my side of the bed and want to play! Hi,
Just wanted to let you have an update. Shurcanpur has really adapted to our home! He loves all the room to run. He runs up and down the stairs (and I thought that I would need to carry him!) He hasn't fallen at all.
He wants to eat ALL the time - you can hardly walk into the kitchen without him racing in ahead of you. He runs everywhere! His 'kitty frenzies' are often and amusing. He has selected a favorite couch and naps after eating and 'frenzying'. He is one sweet baby boy.
We are starting to call him Bogie (Bogart)- Bogiebaby, mostly, but that may change. He seems interested in that name, for now anyway!
Our other family members, black lab and three other cats are a little reluctant (read: really mad) about this change - but change has never been easy for them. For now hissing and growling - no huge altercations - so we think it is going as well as can be expected with them. (Better than I expected!)
We will keep you up to date - he seems to be feeling excellent and is very happy. He's talkative (such a tiny baby voice!) and purrs a great deal. Thanks for your part in saving a very nice guy!

Good morning to all -

My wife and I have a follow-up report for you on the dog you allowed us to adopt almost 1 year ago, (my new best friend). She was and still is named Ginger, about 16 months young now. I sent you the photo you had posted last year and also her current photo as of this morning. If you recall Ginger had a brother in your shelter also, his name was Rocky. How is Rocky doing? I would love to reunite those two if possible.

Ginger has been AWESOME in everyway. She eats IAMs dog food now and was on IAMs puppy chow. She eats morning and night (3 - 3 & 1/2) cups a day. She is not allowed any human food.

Ginger may not be overeating (about 65 pounds now) but she is constantly being overdosed with love and affection. She gets three walks a day plus she stays outside in our entire yard which is enclosed via an underground electric fence. I try to keep the collar off her as much as possible for I wonder if throat cancer could be caused by these devices. She is currently on Frontline Plus for ticks and fleas. She had a couple of ticks this year, even with the Frontline.

Ginger is very energetic and loves to play, unfortunately the other dogs get kind of tired with her after about 10-15 minutes. She loves playing with them but they get tired out of playing so much at one time. Ginger is very mildly mannered and well behaved. She was getting sick on car rides but appears to be slowly getting over that. Ginger loves boat and Jet-Ski rides as well as pontoon rides but she refuses to get on a snowmobile with me. I hope this coming winter (2010) she will try the snowmobile.

Her personality has turned out to be very submissive, she will never growl at any dog or person but she will put her front legs up on your shoulder and lick you to death. She will bark once and a while when she sees other wildlife If other dogs come to us with a dominant personality she just lays down and rolls over so they don't start anything. If I'm around she will bark like crazy if someone comes in our yard but then she backs up to the house door and keeps barking. The UPS driver thought she was a different dog for when were not around he said that she just lays on her elevated stretch bed and allows him to step right over her and her bed and lay the package on the porch. When she was a puppy she used to chew a lot, but seems to have gotten over that.

I hope you will share this with Lucas for I know he and Ginger were getting attached to each other. I could tell Ginger missed him when we took her away from your shelter. I have gotten so attached to her, I would not part with her for a million dollars, NO KIDDING! Ginger sleeps with us every night, as the temperature gets warmer she will sometimes go down on the floor in the middle of the night, off of the king sized bed.

Ginger did get mad at me and didn't want anything to do with me for about three days. This happened when I cut her rear leg inner toe nails (side ones, up high) I never caused her any pain (she never yelped or licked them afterwards), nor did I cut them too short, I just wouldn't allow her to get away without getting them cut. They were so long they were starting to curl around and back into her leg. I had to raise my voice at her when i commanded her to stay and sit.

As I said in my previous e-mail - to all who played a part in the adoption process, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for allowing us to give Ginger a loving and caring home.

My name is Kodiak, AKA Gate Keeper, I am writing to see how you are all doing? Also to let you all know how my family has been working out. I have been here for a year now!!! WOW!! Everything is great here, I’m spoiled like crazy!! I am getting to be a big boy, though, I just went to the vet for shots and I weigh a whooping 74 lbs!! It’s mostly being big boned and lots of muscle. I love to run and play. I am very active. I love being outside, playing fetch or chasing my tail, it doesn’t really matter to me. Sticks are one of my favorite toys, I like to chew them up and make messes with them. If we are outside, I have to go find the biggest, longest stick I can and whack my parents on the back of the legs when I come running by, not on purpose mind you; Even the kids too, although I tend to knock them over in the process. They just end up laughing about it anyways.
I just wanted to write to you and thank you for letting this family adopt me. They are wonderful! In October I got 2 brothers!! They are WAY bigger than me. Their names are Roscoe and Jake, they are horses. Actually Jake is just a miniature, but he scares me the most. He likes to chase and try and play with me. I don’t care for that very much. I did have one other brother, Hemi, he was a cat but my parents gave him to another family because he was peeing and pooping outside his litter box. It’s kind of lonely without him.
I’ve said enough, I could go on and on but I mainly wrote to tell you I love it here. Also wanted to send some pictures of me to let you know how big I am.

Dear Woof Report,
Hi. You probably don't remember me. I was the cutest female out of a litter of nine back in 2002. My mom was pregnant and homeless...someone found her and brought her to your shelter. It was either there or in a foster home where I was born. I only remember the pen we all were kept in at the farm. It was crazy, but we were all together, mom and us pups. We were fed, and had shelter. Then one day these nice people from White Bear Lake, Minnesota came up and played with us. It was around June 15th, '02. Anyways, they paid special attention to me of course and before I knew it I was in a car, sitting on a blanket on a nice young ladies lap. They were adopting me! Apparently their dog went to dog heaven and they needed another pup to fill in the void. Me! I missed my siblings and cried for about 3 or 4 nights, but they seemed pretty nice all in all. (Actually they were the best!)
Pretty soon they had me potty training and running around in a huge wooded yard. I gave 'em a run for their money back in those days...man I used to be fast!
Anyhoo, I'm livin' the life of Riley here...thought you'd like to know. I often wonder how my siblings are doing, where they are...There was a family reunion that we couldn't go to, back a few years ago. I wish I could've made it. Maybe there'll be another one someday. I hope to go to the next one if someone organizes it. I don't even know how to get in touch with any of them. If you published this maybe someone will see it and get something cooking...
Yeah life is good here. I love going to the cabin, laying in the sand, and wading in the lake. (It's a little embarrassing but, I don't swim very well...so I chase ducks that are close to the shoreline and I terrorize the minnows.) I love chasing squirrels and chipmunks...that never gets old, you know what I mean? Let's see, what else? Oh yeah, dog treats are the best! I'm a huge mooch, and my owners are such suckers for a cute face. Oh by the way, if they gave dogs degrees, I'd have a PHD. I do many different tricks and the woman who adopted me makes me actually say "Ma-ma", she's weird but she's fun. She laughs histerically every time I do it! (She's a product of the 60's...)
Yeah, life is awesome. So, I guess I just wanted to tell you thanks for taking me in when I was a little squirt. I'm about 65 lbs...a lot bigger than when you last saw me! (I need to go on a diet...this winter was a killer.)

Hi to all the folks at the Burnett County Humane Society,

I adopted Birkie (formerly Rennie) last April and have exciting news to share! My dad was incredibly curious about what kind of dog she is - she's so smart and determined and very silly - and he ordered a DNA test for her. The test recently came back - Birkie is a boxer/bulldog/Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Birkie is a great girl and loves to play, chase squirrels, and walk around the lake. She's the first dog I've had that has never destroyed or chewed anything that wasn't hers to chew, and she picks up new words after only a few repetitions. She can even retrieve her toys by name! Winter was a little tough; she doesn't exactly have a thick coat, and was very upset about the idea of wearing a coat. But with spring on the way, she's loving the mud and is back to playing fetch. She really is a fabulous dog. Thank you so much. Best, Caitlin Williams

Phoenix, who we adopted on Jan. 31st. "Pheeny" as we call him, has completely adapted to his new life. He follows my mom around and she can't sit down for a moment without him crawling into her lap. His hair, where it was shaved, is starting to grow back now.

He is full of vim and vigor, plays and entertains himself. We manage to clip his claws when he is very relaxed and half asleep. Mom strokes him and I clip. He doesn't seem to mind. Sometimes it seems like Pheeny thinks he's died and gone to heaven, he's so happy.

He is also very talkative -- which is sometimes annoying at 6 a.m. when he wakes mom up. He has also now started to go outside. He doesn't roam far and comes when called (amazing!). He and Bootsie have reached what appears to be a somewhat friendly understanding. They've touched noses several times without Bootsie hissing or arching her back. We are making progress.

Hi, Our dog Rory. (formerly known as Aurora) asked us to key in her e-mail thoughts to you...she still has trouble using a keyboard. (She's able to unlatch a locked window and jump through it to make a glorious romp around the neighborhood but she can't use a keyboard yet. She's scary smart, I wouldn't be surprised if she learns.) Also, thanks for making adopting her such a nice experience. She's a wonderful dog. It was nice to stop by the Humane Society and see old friends when we were up in Siren last week. I still don't have my human units trained to the standard I expect from them but they seem willing to learn (they keep saying that annoying 'NO" word a lot and don't seem to understand that I prefer my walks always be more than a mile). How 6 weeks has flown by since I was adopted! I had some issues with separation anxiety until I settled into my new routine (and home) and I must admit my new human pack members recognized that and gave me some help to deal with that. Things are much better now. My new vet said separation issues aren't uncommon with adopted pets and owners who work through it with their pets generally have pretty good outcomes. My owners seem to be big blues fans because my shelter name--Aurora--was shortened to Rory. Something about a late Irish bluesman named Rory Gallagher, I don't know. I mean, I'm a dog. I've started obedience training at the local Humane Society here in Minneapolis and of course I graduated to Level 2 in record time. Although my puppy cutes have carried me this far I find that I'm liking the training classes: I get awesome treats, get to hang with other dogs and I find that I'm a lot more confident. I mean, who knew? I suspect my new human pack mates have other things in store for me. I've heard them discussing agility training, field training and water retrieving. As a chesapeake/springer mix I am SO down with anything having to do with water or being in the woods! I've gained 6 pounds but I've managed to keep my girlish figure. Although I have chew toys and soft toys I still like to indulge in a bit of mischief, chewing-wise. As a mater of fact I see a dish towel with my name on it! Gotta go! Well, first of all, I would like to thank you all for the commitment and time you put forth for the animals that come through your shelter. The telephone calls with the shelter; for additional info. on Chopper, the call about our application being approved, and the follow-up call a week after the adoption were all very friendly. It was also very meaningful to us that when we requested some additional pictures of Chopper be sent to us by email before our visit, that the time was taken to do that! Also, the suggestion to bring our Golden Retriever with so the 2 dogs could meet was also a wonderful idea - as well as you giving our children a chance to meet and play ball with Chopper beforehand - all was appreciated! He walks very well with the use of a pinch collar and we notice improvement in his manners daily! He LOVES to play catch and tug! We are truly loving the new addition to our family!! Thank you again,(Scott, Sonja, Blaine, Kole, and Alex)

Bliss again. It's been a week already and she continues to do well, seems like she is crate trained and likes it. She got tired last night and went in by herself and laid down for a nap. No potty type accidents since last monday. She has met 3 of the neighborhood dogs and likes 2 of the 3. Loves to ride in the car; has learned to jump right in and runs from window to window when we are moving so she doesn't miss anything. She is fond of pancakes and snuck one off Annette's plate when she turned her back, ate it in about 5 seconds and was then looking for seconds. That was her first sampling of human food here and she likes it. Has Vet appt. for worm check and stitches out on the 30th. She remains our darling and don't worry about us bringing her back. Oh yeah, she likes to nap on laps too which is alright with us especially in this cold weather. Earl

Bennie loves "Dora the Explorer" just as much as our 2 year old. He has been such a wonderful addition to our family. He makes his rounds during the night sleeping with everyone including our Black Lab Jack, (who used to be very afraid of cats...LOL...he got over it quickly.) Bennie is very affectionate and not shy in any way. He hears the door open and just like the dog has to see who it is. Thank you for allowing us to adopt him he completes our large family of kids and animals.

We decided to re-name J.R. Willy... as in "will he poop inside, or out?" He's learning, though. I made him a fleece tunnel to snuggle up in, and it works well to protect our hands from his teeth when we play rough. Nancy
