Tuesday
is doing great! I think he has settled right in. I can't believe no one
snatched this guy up before us, but we are grateful we got to bring him
home.
He
has pretty good house manners and is very gentle. He might be a bit big
for a lap dog but he doesn't seem to know that. They told us when we
picked him up that he likes tennis balls ... for sure. We play fetch for
at least a 1/2 hour every day after work, as well as take a 1/2 mile +
walk. He hasn't chewed on anything in the house, but can really do a
number on chew toys. We solved the problem by substituting rawhides for
"chew time" and balls for "play time".
It
has been a real joy having him around. It is nice to be able to go for a
walk and forget about work every day when I get home and curling up by
the fire in the evening just can't be beat.
I will be making a vet appointment for him at our local vet just so that they have him on record.
He
does very well with Sit and Shake and he has picked up on Down to lay
down. Stay is a work in progress but is coming along pretty well.
One
thing that would be helpful would be for
the shelter to let people know what commands he is used to. We just
happened to overhear a volunteer use "manners" to make him wait to
follow you out the door. He does very well with this command, but it was
just by chance that we found out he knows it. Other than that, Brenda
was great to work with.
We will add a couple new happy photos to the facebook page soon.
Thanks,
Mitch & Amy
